Hi I’m Angela Watson, creator of Pawz4Thought, dog lover, coach…with a slight obsession with 2 Golden Retrievers.
The fact that you’re here means you probably know me from my Executive Coaching courses, or my activity on social media – so you may already know that I’m fascinated by the way humans think, feel, and behave.
I’m also a Master Practitioner and Trainer in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Clean Language. I have spent several years training people from all walks of life and mastering these tools and techniques to help people with many of life’s challenges – from leadership and management issues to performance anxiety and dog phobias.
NLP is particularly fabulous for people who prefer to think for themselves, rather than be told or ‘advised’ what to do, and when I started to use NLP processes, immediately coaching sessions ran better. Clients noticed – and they really appreciated the level of listening and attention I gave them.
Then one day, I was surfing the internet and stumbled across David Grove’s Clean Language. As you may know, Clean Language is a questioning technique that works by harnessing the power of the client’s own conscious and unconscious resources to effect change. I have spent many years studying Clean Language alongside Sue Knight, Marian Way, Wendy Sullivan and Judy Rees. And I set to work to let people know about NLP and Clean Language, and their applications in coaching, management, and leadership conversations.
I developed a number of training programmes and worked with medics and managers, nurses and executives, NHS organisations and Business Schools, to explore how these approaches could make a difference: improving communication; reducing conflict; and enhancing relationships.
I wrote a number of Ebooks including “The Clean Approach To Leadership”; and co-authored a research paper ‘Bringing Change in Primary Care”, published in the International Journal of Clinical Leadership.
I also delivered many university accredited coaching courses as well as live master-classes – helping new and established coaches develop the high level listening and questioning skills.
NLP and Clean are still my main coaching methodologies and I have helped hundreds of people feel more confident about themselves and the things they do. And as you may know It also helps people find the resources within themselves to do things they never thought possible, stay focused, remain calm and relaxed, feel confident, perform well under pressure.
And here’s something you may not know about me. I am an experienced dog handler specialising in training methods that are specifically designed to lower the stress levels of dogs, helping them to learn more readily and have fun while they do so, which has earned me the nickname ‘the dog whisperer’. This means I have both the dog handling expertise and the professional qualifications to help others through animal assisted interventions.
I incorporate ‘dog whispering’ into my coaching work alongside the formal NLP and Clean Language methodologies I learned from Sue, Judy, Wendy, and Marian.
Way back when, I used to work in healthcare and have a degree in managing public sector services. First I was a qualified cardiac nurse, making a name for myself as someone who could listen to patients and their relatives. Later I spent several years in NHS senior management, where my job involved leading major change projects, managing budgets of £18 million, and ensuring the quality of services for patients. Mainly thanks to effective listening, I got involved in and led a number of national improvement initiatives, as the government began it’s national programme of modernising NHS Services.
