Why Pawz4Thought?

Coach Harry

Pawz4Thought programmes are pioneering experiential learning programmes to help people deal with assertiveness, communication, leadership, and team work issues through working a dog…and not just our dogs…your dog.

Dogs are dynamic, powerful, sentient beings. Being very real, very present, and in the moment, dogs are the perfect animals to help leaders develop presence, self-confidence, awareness, assertiveness, and communication. Dogs depend on good leadership and will make sure you “walk your talk!”.

“Feedback from dogs is immediate, non-judgemental and honest”

Our furry friends have much to teach us about team work, relationships, clear communication etc. It’s true…ask anyone who works with dogs… those who are familiar with dogs know it’s about building a relationship based on trust and respect, harnessing individual skills, working together in the same direction, to get a great result. Developing relationships, training dogs, dog training instruction, and caring for dogs naturally effects the people involved in a positive way.

More importantly, dogs naturally act as a mirror to the way we are behaving, sounding, thinking, and feeling. Many dog owners complain, “the dog is stubborn”. “that dog never does what I tell it” etc. The lesson is that if they change themselves, the dog responds differently. Dogs are honest, non-judgemental and highly aware which makes them effective messengers.

And it’s not just for dog lovers.

Like horses, dogs are naturally intimidating to many, and are powerful and strong. This creates a natural opportunity for some to overcome fear and develop confidence. Working alongside a dog in spite of those fears, creates confidence and provides wonderful insight when dealing with other intimidating and challenging situations in life.

Understanding and becoming skilled at relating to dogs has real parallels to the way humans interact with each other. Take for example, Rapport –  dogs love this and wag their tails. It is an essential pre-requisite to effective communication with yourself and with someone else. The process of establishing rapport is not one of forcing but going with; of meeting the other person in their world, and applying only the slightest effort in a harmonious and ecological way.

So often in work and in life, we try to force change upon ourselves and others. For example, when we want to influence someone we might try to convince them by arguing…yet they remain unconvinced (dogs know this too!)

These powerful programmes offer you the opportunity to learn from our award winning, Golden Retrievers and from working training your own dog. Through experiential learning techniques you can safely explore and raise your awareness of your innate personal resources which may have lain dormant for years.

The focus of Canine Assisted Learning (CAL) involves setting up activities involving the dogs which will require an individual or group to apply certain skills.  Non-verbal communication, assertiveness, creative thinking and problem-solving, leadership, work, taking responsibility, teamwork and relationships, confidence, and attitude are several examples of the tools utilised and developed by CAL.

Whilst training and interacting with your dog, you have the opportunity to take what you need and will be encouraged to seek opportunities to transfer your learning into your own communication, leadership, coaching, and influencing activities.

We can deliver 1:1 programmes designed for you and your own dog; 1:1 programmes for you with our Canine Coaches; open programmes designed for businesses who don’t have enough staff to warrant an in -house programme; and tailored programmes for specific groups who wish to learning specific skills for example – improved product sales for a company, leadership skills for a school group, communication skills training for our healthcare professionals, or assertiveness training for women business owners…the list is endless.

All of our programmes are personally designed by us, based on what we have learned about people and dogs that offer an extraordinary wealth of interaction, learning, feedback, insights and awareness, not to mention fun. We have learned a lot from our Canine Coaches which has benefited our business clients over the past 5 years. We don’t claim to have all the answers and are always willing to learn more.

We look forward to welcoming you to our training events and we are happy to answer any questions that you may have about our very unique programmes.
